Ridgeline Outdoor Club Outline
What is Ridgeline Outdoor Club: It is a multi-dimensional club for Seaside Middle and High School students to experience and learn from nature with professionals and volunteers in the following themes:
- Forestry Management (logging industry, forest management, data collection, and forest mapping)
- Horticulture (native tree, native shrub, and native wildflower propagation, identification and planting)
- Wildlife biology and identification of local animal life
- Ridgeline Trail Building and Maintenance (invasive plant control, water drainage, and safe trail access)
- Mountain Biking and Hiking
Who will participate: All Seaside Middle and High School students from 6th grade to Seniors are invited. Up to 5 students per year can participate for their Pacifica Projects. Community volunteers from Hampton, Stimson, Nuveen, Seaside science teachers, local ornithologists,
field biologists, local conservationists, and mountain bike instructors will support the club throughout the year.
What Ridgeline Outdoor Club will do: We will have a detailed calendar of activities for the school year according to the seasonal influences in Seaside.
- Fall
- tree and plant identification
- trail maintenance work for safe access
- water drainage, seed collection and native plant transplanting for plant/tree propagation
- Winter
- forestry management, tree thinning, tree tagging, and species inventory data collection
- demonstration forest in The Grove is mapped and measured in two plotted areas
- Women in Timber fundraising event display and Ridgeline presentation
- Spring
- Horticulture plantings, seed germination, and invasive species management
- Trail maintenance for the spring trail events
- Pacifica Projects
- Mountain biking/hiking
When and where we will meet: Every Wednesday from 3:00 to 4:00 pm we will meet at The Green Room for outdoor club activities. From 4:00 to 4:30 is the optional mountain biking component. There will be four events with the community.
1. Trail work party in the Fall
2. January/February planting party
3. Oregon Women in Timber Banquet
4. End of year community trail work party
Ridgeline Outdoor Club Details:
The club will operate with student leadership to facilitate the calendar of events and communication to the student body. They will generate a contact list for weekly electronic communication regarding club events. Science teachers from the middle school and high
school will promote Ridgeline Outdoor Club activities to the student body. The Ridgeline Outdoor Club director will serve for the next 2 years while training a younger youth worker within Seaside School District as an assistant, to move into the director position. The Ridgeline
Director will receive a $5000 stipend annually, and the assistant will receive $2500 stipend annually. The stipend will be taken from the annual Women in Timber donation to Seaside School District for the support of natural resources in education. The remaining funds from that
yearly grant will cover operating costs, student supplies, tool purchases, and other trail maintenance expenses. The director will be engaged in fundraising and grant writing to further
support the Ridgeline project.
List of Ridgeline projects for 2026-2027:
- We will plant another senior class of 2027 tree in The Grove
- Complete the thinning ofThe Grove Demonstration Forest
- Build a trailhead marker for The Grove northeast corner
- Replace and improve existing trail directional signage
- Improve and upgrade upper Ridgeline, The Runway and re-grade the Boardwalk climb
- Build a pullout at the parking lot rollers
- Have a full-time porta-potti at the Green Room available
Pacifica Projects
- New trail to be built from The Boardwalk north to The Landing which will rejoin Ridgeline as a new loop
